Lobectomy Surgery

Lobectomy is a surgical treatment for lung diseases, it involves removing a lobe of the lung. The lungs have different parts called lobes. The right lung is divided into three lobes, and the left is divided into two. The procedure is conducted on the side of the chest by making a few small incisions (minimally invasive) or one long incision (thoracotomy). Along with the affected lobe, nearby lymph nodes may or may not be removed based on the underlying disease. The procedure is less invasive, which helps to conserve lung functioning. Lobectomy is commonly performed for non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) where tumours are confined to a single lobe, infections like aspergilloma, and necrotizing pneumonias.
